Safe in Honduras

Just a quick note to let you all know that I´m safe, I´ve been beachin´ it the past week in Placencia (with a little skip and a hop over to San Ignacio to see some ruins, a butterfly farm and the Garifuna Museum in Dangriga). I´ve been gloriously lazy, finished reading Rushdie´s Midnight´s Children (which was brilliant, such a rich piece of fiction, if I ever teach a literature class it´ll definitely be on the syllabus).

I arrived in Honduras today after a full day of travel, and am staying the night in La Ceiba before heading over to Roatan, one of the Bay Islands renown for its snorkeling and diving. I´m hoping for dolphins!

Will give a more detailed update soon...

  1. i actually had the book from a first year english course i taed at ubc. i was stoked to get to read that and also tristram shandy. and rosencrantz and guilderstein are dead. a pretty good class. i wonder if the students did any of the reading? i also didn't realize until latter that the historical stuff is true, like the war in bangladesh and the indian intervention. i liked the book but was a little disappointed because with all the hype over the fatwa on rushdie's head i was expecting to have my mind blown.

  2. Sounds SO amazing. I'll keep my fingers crossed & hope the dolphins come & play with you.

The contrast between reading your first thoughts on Midnight's Children and those here makes me want to read it. Once I finish my current books, I'll pick it up.

Hope you're having an amazing time & taking care of yourself!
